After getting into trouble for a reckless deed, Frank Hudson wishes for a fence to surround him and help him avoid future predicaments. It must be high so he won’t climb over, and thorny so he won’t go through. A hedge fence! Providentially, a gentleman boarder comes to Frank’s rescue, with monthly scripture notes intended as Frank’s hedge of protection. There are ample opportunities for mischief and danger and the “hedges” seem to arrive just when Frank needs them. He describes each dilemma to his cousin in this series of letters.
